U.S. State Attorneys General Plan to Launch Joint Probe into Fraudulent Bank Paperwork

Updated October 14, 2010: CNNMoney.com reported that the attorneys general of all 50 states announced Wednesday a coordinated probe into improper foreclosures by the nation’s largest loan servicers, but that they had not called for a freeze on all foreclosures.  The article can be found here.

Updated October 12, 2010: The Washington Post has reported that as many as 40 attorneys general may join the probe and that an announcement on the subject is anticipated later this week.  A video report may be found here.

Reuters reported on Sunday that more than two-thirds of U.S. state attorneys general plan this week to launch a joint probe into charges some banks used fraudulent paperwork to kick struggling borrowers out of their homes.  According to the article, a  deadline for attorneys general to sign on to the investigation effort led by Iowa’s Tom Miller was at the end of the day Monday, so a formal announcement could be made Tuesday. At least half a dozen attorneys general have already announced individual investigations into the foreclosure mess.  A link to the article can be found here.
